Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
