NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
