NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
