No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
