No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved playing different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to play some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play countless hours and fail to win most times. He made some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He judged he could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus attention more on the game.
The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.
He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the greatest women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
